Attendees having successfully completed this assessment, have demonstrated their ongoing knowledge, skills, awareness, attitude and competence to work safely at heights.
They can apply Health and Safety legislation and the best practice to height safety, and associated systems and equipment, across a variety of work at height environments. They are able to plan, prepare, communicate and complete associated documentation for working at height and select, inspect and use height safety systems and equipment appropriately and according to manufacturer’s specifications, to maintain personal safety and the safety of others while working at height.
Demonstrate an understanding of the responsibilities and legal requirements of individuals and groups conducting work at height.
Explain the safety systems used for work at height.
Conduct a hazard & risk analysis when planning work at height.
Generate a rescue plan and explain the roles of those included in the plan.
Select, check and fit a personal safety harness.
Select and check height safety systems and associated equipment, including a range of knots, appropriate for the task to be carried out at height.
Follow established procedures to safely install, use and disestablish both a vertical and horizontal temporary proprietary height safety system.
Demonstrate actions needed to retrieve a worker trapped within the system.
Unit standard credits are registered with the NZQA
Successful candidates receive a certificate/wallet card
All associated equipment i.e. helmets, harness, are provided
Attendees must have a reasonable level of written and oral English equivalent to NCEA level 1. It is the responsibility of the attendee or person authorised and responsible for making the booking to disclose any English language support needs.

Attendees may bring their own harness. These will be inspected by the instructor and approved prior to being allowed to use it.
