Roof Access Upgrade – Bunnings Warehouse

Client/Scope of work:

Bunnings Limited. Upgrade the Roof Access Safety Systems on the Botany Store, Auckland.

Specific issues to be addressed:

Replace existing timber walkways with aluminium. Install guardrails to unprotected fall edges and around existing roof access hatches. Replace non-compliant access ladders with ones that meet compliance standards. Install skylight protectors over all skylights.

Special considerations:

All visible systems that could be viewed from ground level had to be powder coated in the ‘Bunnings Green’ hue prior to installation. A crane lift was scheduled for 6 a.m to transport all materials onto the roof, ensuring minimal disruption to foot traffic and customer parking.

What was done and why?

All roof access systems were brought up to AS/NZS Standards by removing and disposing of existing non compliant systems. New aluminium walkways, new guardrails along unprotected fall edges, access ladders and guardrail kits around existing roof access hatches were all part of the upgraded system. Approximately 150 skylight protectors were installed over all skylights.
